Watch them below! They show good understanding that the perimeter is the outside ("You have to measure each side, each side, add 'em up!") and the area is the inside ("Length x Width is the area!"). So far, I've spotted 1 mistake (maybe it was deliberate?) - Can you find it? Also, 2 are silent - can you follow the pen marks for an explanation?
Today's learning objective in Numeracy was to explain solutions to area and perimeter problems. For some of us, it was the first attempt using Show Me, where we can make a 'Podcast' of our learning. This week, we are going to write Explanation texts. Today, we read an explanation text about metals. We had some time at the end to list some features of this kind of writing. For many it was a first attempt using Show Me, but the children have used Show Me to explain what they learnt, either by identifying features of this text or explaining new things they have learned! If you have a straight line, and you know 1 angle on it, you can find out the remaining angle with this tutorial here by Sky. Today we revised our work on 4 and 6 figure grid references and Ordinance Survey symbols. Here are some Show Mes which give you a tour of Tanfield Lea. Show Me is an iPad app where children can talk and write on a whiteboard. Watch out for more Show Mes over the coming weeks. They were our first attempt so well done! Sky is a born presenter! Here she shows us how to do simple addition. I look forward to seeing more Show Me presentations for other areas of Maths! Here are a couple of fantastic presentations from our pupils. The first is a Science experiment about factors affecting evaporation from Niall and Katie and the second is a very thorough, clear explanation about fractions from Ben. Ben tells me there is a big cheer half way through (we were applauding Kat in the class whose Christmas decoration has been chosen by Stanley to be made into an illumination). More news on that soon hopefully... |
